The different parts of the directions are in multiple locations: on a post-it, printed on the box, on a sheet of paper, on a form, so they are not very straightforward and difficult to follow. The box included an oversized sticker with a form that I was not sure where to put, so I stuck it on the sample bottle. Someone needs to re-do these to make them easier to follow. They also don’t say how much oil you need to sample. I had to go on website to look at FAQs but they are a bit disorganized. But I’m sure I’ll learn from doing it a few times. The supplied sampling tube was so contorted from shipping I could not easily use it to sample oil from the filler tube on my Lycoming.

I have never had an oil analysis done before so I had not expectations. The included form could be clearer and the extra label in the box had no explanation as to its use. The included FedEx shipping was a bonus until I figured out that it has taken longer to send my sample from Pensacola, FL to Kenner, LA (310 miles via I10) than it does to send a package to my son in Afghanistan. So far the tracking indicates it has been to Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, and it is now in Tennessee. I think Fedex Smartpost is the dumbest thing anyone has ever come up with. I would like to suggest that you provide a kit with an option for the consumer to send the item however they would like and reduce the cost of that kit. Based on the current delivery date (which has changed every day) the sample won’t arrive until March 20th. It was send on March 6th…

I like your test kit and the results, but the instructions and data sheet are confusing and should make it clear that duplicate information does not have to be re-entered. You also might want to use a different material for the plastic tube in the kit; it was hopelessly deformed when I got it, and was not useful.

I’ve used AvLab for years and generally have been quite satisfied with the analysis itself. In the past I’ve purchased the pre-paid kits at Sun-n-Fun, but because of the pandemic I can’t make it there this year. So I purchased two kits online. BOY! What an unpleasant surprise as to the price ($$), and an added $12.56 for FedEx shipping! Not good! I could have waited another week for ground shipping to receive these almost weightless boxes, but wasn’t offered any choice. And then to have an included note in the kit indicating that despite shipping pre-payment, the sample may take weeks for AvLab to receive it! For sure, I’m not happy with that. I’ll re-think my choices in my future oil analyses.

We decided to do our own oil/filter changes recently and having AvLab track our oil samples was a no brainer. It provides peace of mind and will hopefully provide a heads up if our engine starts to make any metal (knock on wood it doesn’t). The only odd thing with AvLab is they call you after you place your order and call you when your order ships. They haven’t received our recent sample, but I imagine they will call again (seems like they like calling a lot). FYI, if you purchase the kit WITH shipping included, the return shipping is the economy option of USPS+FedEx which takes significantly longer than the normal shipping options.
